Energy Modeling
Synergy Engineering prides itself on delivering energy efficient, cost, and environmentally
conscious solutions for the new generation of High Performance Buildings.
We build sophisticated whole-building Energy Models that accurately demonstrate the
operating cost benefits of proposed building envelope, HVAC, daylighting and other
technologies that can present decision makers with compelling reasons for implementing
sustainable strategies into project design.
The early start of the Energy Modeling effort is crucial to the obtainment of LEED
certification. LEED for New Construction projects registered after June 26, 2007 must
exceed the minimum energy performance requirements of ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-
2004 and achieve at least 2 (two) LEED points under Optimized Energy Efficiency Credit
EAc1.
Our whole-building simulation analysis is based on the rigorous engineering approach
that fully captures the interaction between building systems. Some of the integration
issues addressed through the energy modeling include:
• The impact of glazing selection and placement on the availability of daylight, thermal
comfort and cooling loads.
• The effect of the thermal mass inherent in the building structure or interior walls can
have on the magnitude and timing of peak cooling loads.
• Improved part-load operation of cooling and heating equipment
• Energy recovery strategies
• On-site renewable power generation
• The effect of control optimization strategies on overall building performance
